‘I’m Not Paying’: Tom Hanks Rejects Seat in Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spaceflight

Space tourism has been all the rage of late, with a new billionaire shutting down in a gap of what feels like every other week. But newsflash: There’s someone who doesn’t see what the craze is all about, and that’s Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Hanks revealed that prior to William Shatner, he was offered a Blue Origin flight to outer space by Jeff Bezos, but he turned it down. “You know, it’s worth 28 million bucks or something like that. I’m doing well, Jimmy, I’m doing well. But I’m not paying 28. [million] Bucks,” a PEOPLE report quoted Hanks as saying. In addition, Hanks highlighted the situation by saying that a 12-minute space flight could be simulated by the host Jimmy and himself sitting in their seats. The 65-year-old actor Jokingly bounced around in his seat as if in space flight to drive his point home.

Furthermore, Hanks quipped that he doesn’t need to spend $28 million to get the experience of being in space flight. He said he would probably do it if it was free, just to feel the joy of “pretending” to be a billionaire. Hanks’ take is the exact opposite of Shatner. William Shatner, who starred as Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek series, flew to space on October 12 aboard the company’s Crew rocket, becoming the oldest astronaut ever. “I’ve heard about space for a long time now. I’m taking this opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle,” said the 90-year-old actor in a statement to Jeff Bezos’ space company. The Star Trek actor hit the edge of space. He described his visit as “the most profound experience”.

However, when Shatner was sharing his experience with Bezos, it didn’t go as planned. When Shatner spoke about his space experience, Bezos suddenly cut off the conversation and turned to a few nearby groups and said, “Give me a bottle of champagne. Come here I want one.”

Bezos’s sudden reaction upset Shatner and made him stop speaking. Then he scratched his head and turned away, while Bezos continued to crack the bottle of bubbly. The video ends where Bezos turns to lay his hand on Shatner.
