IMD Forecast: Depression weakens, extreme rain alert in these states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday that a deep depression is persisting over Northwest Chhattisgarh, adjoining Madhya Pradesh and South-East Uttar Pradesh, but there is a possibility of heavy rains in many parts of North India.

The IMD in its bulletin said that this pressure will continue to move west-northwestwards across north Madhya Pradesh and will weaken into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours.

“Deep pressure weakening over Northwest Chhattisgarh and adjoining Northeast Madhya Pradesh and South East Uttar Pradesh and concentrated over the same area at 0530 hrs today,” the IMD tweeted.

Apart from this, the bulletin issued by the department said, “The pressure over Northwest Chhattisgarh and adjoining Northeast Madhya Pradesh moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 18 kmph during the last 06 hours and today, on 21st August 1130 Was centered at IST, 2022 in Northeast Madhya Pradesh near Latitude 24.0°N and Longitude 81.2°E, about 60 km North-Northeast of Umaria (Madhya Pradesh), 70 km South-Southeast of Satna (Madhya Pradesh) and 170 km east of Damoh (Madhya Pradesh). It will continue to move west-northwestwards across north Madhya Pradesh and weaken into a low pressure area during next 24 hours.”

The IMD further predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with very heavy rainfall at most places and very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh today.

Describing the geographical extent of the Monsoon Trough, the IMD said, “The western end of the Monsoon Trough at mid-sea level continues along the Himalayan foothills and its eastern end now passes through Bareilly, Kanpur, Northeast Madhya Pradesh, Passes through the center of the depression at Ambikapur, Jamshedpur, Diamond Harbor and from there eastwards towards the northeast of the Bay of Bengal.”
