IMD issues orange alert for six districts of Kerala

IMD Weather Forecast: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an orange alert for six districts of Kerala on Saturday (November 13) and for five districts on Sunday (November 14).

Heavy rain alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki on Saturday. The five districts where alert has been issued for Sunday are Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki.

Earlier in the day, the IMD had predicted heavy to very heavy rains over Kerala during the next three days. Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Kerala during the next three days.

The department has predicted heavy rain at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry and South Interior Karnataka during the next 5 days and South Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Idukki district collector said that the shutters of Cheruthoni dam of Idukki reservoir may be opened on Saturday or Sunday in case the rains continue in the district.

The collector warned people living on the banks of Idukki dam and Periyar river to be alert.
