IMD predicts heavy rain, hailstorm in Kerala, 16 other states, union territories

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted heavy rain and hailstorm in some parts of the country in the next few days. In its latest forecast on Saturday evening, the Meteorological Department had predicted that South Peninsula India would see intense rainfall activity till October 17. Meanwhile, Northwest India will receive a fresh spell of rain on October 17 and 18.

The IMD said that in the South Peninsular region, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains over Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

A Low Pressure Area is persisting over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Kerala. The Meteorological Department mentioned that another low pressure area has developed over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighboring areas, which is likely to move generally northwestwards towards West Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance lies over southern parts of Afghanistan and adjoining areas in lower levels as a cyclonic circulation.

As a result of the Low Pressure Area over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Kerala, Kerala and Mahe are very likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall for the rest of the day. This will intensify into isolated heavy rainfall over the region on Sunday, October 17.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over South Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today. On October 17, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal will see isolated heavy rains.

Stormy weather, wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over southeast Arabian Sea, adjoining Lakshadweep region off Kerala coast, Maldives-Comorin areas and Gulf of Mannar, predicted IMD , advised fishermen not to venture into these areas. .

Due to other low pressure area over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighboring areas, isolated heavy rainfall likely over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh today; in South Odisha during 16 to 18 October; 16 and 17 October in Vidarbha and 17 and 18 October in Madhya Pradesh.

The meteorological department said that this weather system will move towards inclement weather over west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast, with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph.

A Western Disturbance is in the form of a cyclonic circulation over southern parts of Afghanistan and neighborhood in lower levels. The IMD noted that the interaction between this Western Disturbance and the low level strong easterly winds associated with the remnant cyclonic circulation would result in light to very heavy rains over many states.

Light to moderate rain is very likely at most places and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Uttarakhand during October 17 to 19. Similar weather conditions will prevail over Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during October 17 to 18; and on October 17 in Haryana, Chandigarh and East Rajasthan.

On October 18, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh as well.

Thunderstorm and lightning are very likely at isolated places over Northwest India during October 17 and 18. Isolated hailstorm is very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on October 17 and Uttarakhand on October 17 and 18.

The IMD said that on October 17 and 18, strong winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph would occur in Uttar Pradesh.
