The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said southwest monsoon rains are likely to be normal across the country this year – 99 per cent of the quantitatively long period average (LPA). However, many parts of Northeast India will receive below normal rainfall. The IMD also announced a marginal reduction in the new normal for all India rainfall based on decadal data.
