Islamabad:

Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan on Saturday blamed former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa for the disqualification of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case, Dawn reported.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan claimed that General Bajwa had “sent two brigadiers” who proved Nawaz Sharif was involved in the Panama affair, Dawn cited Bol News interview.

He (Bajwa) had sent two brigadiers who proved that Nawaz was involved in the Panama affair. Dawn quoted Bol News interview with Imran Khan.

Khan said, “That’s why Nawaz is not forgiving Bajwa.”

Khan said that Pakistan’s former army chief and all agencies are telling the media and members of his government how corrupt the leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement are. He further said that these people “imposed those same people on us”.

Responding to a question on why Nawaz Sharif was allowed to leave the country, Khan said the medical reports of the former Pakistan PM have been doctored, Dawn reported.

Responding to a question on the local government elections in Karachi, the former PM spoke about the ‘tactics’ used by the Pakistan People’s Party to ‘steal the elections’ by collaborating with the local police, administration and the Election Commission.

The PTI chairman insisted that the educated, business-minded people living in Karachi could never “vote for the PPP.”

Speaking on the Toshakhana case against him, the former Pakistan PM said that the government and the “handlers” made the case big without any reason.

The News International reported that Khan on Saturday claimed that there has been a change in the behavior of General Qamar Javed Bajwa after he was given an extension as army chief in 2019.

Khan said, “General Bajwa turned around after the extension and settled with Sharif. They, at that time, decided to give him the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)”, The News International cited an interview with a private channel .

The PTI chairman also claimed that Gen (retd) Bajwa hired Hussain Haqqani, then Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, to topple his government. He said Haqqani joined the office through the Foreign Office without his knowledge.

According to The News International, Imran Khan claimed that the former diplomat started lobbying against him in the US and promoted Gen (retd) Bajwa.

Imran Khan was ousted in April last year through a no-confidence motion.
