Imran Khan summoned in ‘Toshkhana’ controversy; PDP claims former PM took most of the goods for free – Times of India

Islamabad: Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) has issued notice to Imran Khan, former prime minister and chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). KHAN Regarding the government treasury collection dispute and summoned him for hearing on 18 August.
As reported by Geo TV, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had issued a notice to Khan, claiming that the former PM had taken most of the items “free” from the treasury house during his tenure.
The PDM filed the reference claiming that Khan had paid only for a few items that he took home from the ‘Toshkhana’, but most of the items that he had taken from the exchequer were done without paying for them. .
In the context, it was alleged that Khan did not disclose the gifts received by him and concealed information in his statements.
Reportedly, gifts received by government officials should be reported immediately, so that its value can be assessed. Only after the appraisal has been done can the recipient take the gift, if he wishes to keep it, after depositing a specific amount.
These gifts are either stored in Toshakhana or can be auctioned and the money earned through this is to be deposited in the national treasury.
Last month, the former prime minister of Pakistan sold three expensive watches from the exchequer to a local watch dealer collectively worth over 1.54 million Pakistani rupees (PKR), media reports said.
The News International newspaper reported that Imran Khan allegedly earned lakhs of rupees from these jewel-class watches gifted to him by foreign dignitaries.
The most expensive watch, worth over PKR 101 million, was retained by Khan at 20 per cent of its value as his PTI government amended the rules and fixed the gift retention value at 50 per cent of its original value.
The Pakistan daily, citing documents and sales receipts, said that the PTI chief first sold the watches and then deposited each in the government treasury.
It states that these gifts worth lakhs of rupees were never deposited in Toshakhana.
In April this year, Shahbaz Sharif accused his predecessor Imran Khan Case of Toshakhana selling gifts worth Rs 14 crore in Dubai.
“Imran Khan sold these gifts in Dubai for Rs 14 crore,” Shahbazi said.
He said that expensive gifts include diamond jewelery sets, bracelets and wristwatches.
Shahbaz’s revelation came in response to a question regarding a petition seeking details of Toshakhana filed in the Islamabad High Court, to which the then PM Imran Khan had remarked that the details could not be disclosed as per the Official Secrets Act, 1923. could.
