Bangalore:

Two unions, representing at least 13,000 schools in Karnataka, have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government of corruption.

The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools and the Registered Unaided Private School Management Association have urged PM Modi to look into the alleged bribes being sought by the state education department for issuing recognition certificates to educational institutions.

“Unscientific, irrational, discriminatory and non-compliance norms are applicable only to unaided private schools and there is huge corruption,” the letter said.

The unions claimed that several complaints and pleas of state education minister BC Nagesh went unheeded, and demanded Mr Nagesh’s resignation.

“The Ministry of Education is impatient to listen and understand the real pathetic condition of the whole system and resolve the issues. Two different BJP ministers have literally done a lot of damage to the budget schools instead of the schools which allow more and more investors. are commercializing education by giving the set up, costing more fees per child directly to the parent,” the letter added.

The unions also alleged that despite the start of the new academic year, textbooks prescribed by the government are still not reaching the schools.

“The Education Minister is not concerned with liberalizing the stringent norms and creating rules and regulations which both public and private schools can implement practically and physically without burdening the parents and students,” read the complaint. .

School associations have urged PM Modi to look into the allegations and initiate an inquiry into the Karnataka Education Ministry matters.
