In a setback to Nitish Kumar’s national ambitions, 5 out of 6 JD(U) MLAs in Manipur join the ruling BJP. India News – Times of India

Patna: In a repeat of the Arunachal Pradesh incident in December 2020, five of the six JD(U) MLAs Manipur joined the ruling BJP On Saturday in Patna on Friday, just a day before the meeting of the National Executive of the ruling party of Bihar.
This has come as a major setback for JD(U) and Bihar Chief Minister. Nitish Kumar who are nurturing the national ambition for the 2024 general elections.

Five MLAs K Joykisan Singh, Ngursangalur Sanate, Achab Uddin, Thangjam Arunkumar and LM Khoute, who came to Patna on Saturday to attend the important meeting of the party, met the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Friday and expressed their desire. To join the ruling BJP as per the provisions of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. The speaker approved their merger with the ruling BJP. The Manipur Assembly Secretariat later issued a notification in this regard.

Now only one JD(U) MLAMuhammad Abdul Nasir, who won the assembly election from Lilong seat, continues with the party in the state.

“Political development in Manipur reflects the morality of the BJP,” said the JD(U) national general secretary and the party’s chief minister. Northeast In-charge Afaq Ahmed Khan told TOI on Friday.
In December 2020, six out of seven JD(U) MLAs in Arunachal Pradesh had joined the BJP. Techi Kaso, the lone remaining JD(U) MLA in Arunachal Pradesh, joined the ruling BJP on August 24 this year. The lone JD(U) MLA in Nagaland also quit the party a few years back.
With the defection of these five MLAs, the JD(U) now has only one MLA in the entire Northeast region.
