In Bengaluru, Priyanka Gandhi takes ‘superman’ jibe at BJP for inflation

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday took ‘Superman’ jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party for rising inflation in the country saying that the BJP promised a lot of things but delivered nothing.

Addressing a public rally in Karnataka‘s Bengaluru, Priyanka said, “Aapko ‘Superman’ ki image dikhai gayi lekin mile aapko ‘Mehangaiman’…”

The truth is, she said, that the BJP government “did not work for you in these 10 years”.

She claimed that the BJP is making efforts “to weaken democracy”.

“Today there is talk of changing the Constitution, what will happen by changing the Constitution? Your rights will weaken, your strength will reduce,” Gandhi said.

“Because under the Constitution, every person in this country, be it a man or a woman, of any caste, of any religion, be it a farmer, or a Prime Minister, everyone gets equal rights,” she added.

Referring to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Jharkhand’s former CM Hemant Soren, the Congress leader said that it is for the first time in this country that 2 Chief Ministers have been arrested before the elections.

“The bank accounts of one of the largest parties of the country have been closed…” she added referring to Income-Tax department freezing Congress’ accounts.

Priyanka also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks against Congress in Rajasthan and said that during war, Indira Gandhi donated her gold. “My mother’s ‘Mangalsutra’ was sacrificed for this country,” she addded referring to Sonia Gandhi.

“From last 2 days it is being said that Congress Party wants to snatch your ‘Mangalsutra’ and your gold from you. The country has been independent for 70 years and there has been a Congress government for 55 years. Did anyone snatch your gold, ‘Mangalsutra’? During the war, Indira Gandhi gave her gold to the country. Meri maa ka ‘Mangalsutra’ is desh ko kurbaan hua hai…” she said.

“The truth is that these (BJP) people cannot understand the struggle of women. If Modi ji had understood the importance of ‘Mangalsutra’, he would not have said such things…” Priyanka said.

She said by implementing demonetization, PM Modi took away the savings of women and during the farmers’ protest, 600 farmers lost their lives.

“Did Modi ji think about the ‘Mangalsutra’ of those widows? When a woman was paraded naked in Manipur, Modi ji was silent, he did not say anything. Did he think about her ‘mangalsutra’?” she said adding that he is saying these things today for votes.

Bengaluru will vote in the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on August 26.
