In Gujarat Manifesto, Congress promises to rename Narendra Modi Stadium

The Congress today promised to rename Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium as Sardar Patel Stadium if voted to power in Gujarat. Releasing the party’s manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections, senior Congress leader and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the Congress will adopt the election manifesto as an official document in the first cabinet meeting itself if the party forms the government.

Assembly elections will be held in Gujarat in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.

Promising to create 10 lakh jobs in the state for all Gujaratis, the Congress manifesto said it would ensure 50 per cent reservation for women in government jobs and Rs 2,000 to every single woman, widow and elderly woman in the state Monthly grant of Rs. ,

The party also said that 3,000 English medium schools would be opened by the government and free education would be provided to girls in the state till their post-graduation.

Farm loan waiver of up to Rs 3 lakh, 300 units of free electricity, monthly grant of Rs 3,000 to every unemployed youth and Rs 500 domestic gas cylinder are some of the other promises made in the Congress manifesto.

Holding the current BJP-led government in Gujarat responsible for rampant corruption, Mr Gehlot said if the Congress comes to power, an inquiry will be ordered into all complaints of corruption in the last 27 years and the guilty will be brought to book .

Offering free medical care up to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh to all Gujaratis and free health check-up and medicines up to Rs 5 lakh, the Congress has also promised Rs 4 lakh COVID compensation in the state.
