In Kerala Congress powerplay, Shashi Tharoor claims “firsts”

Thiruvananthapuram:

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday hit back at those who were claiming that he was not supporting the UDF agitation against the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor, in his purported letter to a “priority list” of CPI(M) cadres. The civic body has been asked to appoint temporary posts. , adding that they were probably “not paying attention” to his stance on the issue.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP also said that he was “disgusted” when he saw the mayor’s conduct and the police action against Congress protesters.

Speaking to reporters outside the corporation, where the Congress-led UDF has been agitating for the past 19 days, Tharoor said perhaps those claiming that he was not supporting the protest were either unaware or had Demands for the resignation of Mayor Arya Rajendran on 7 November were “not paying attention” to news reports about.

“I had first asked for his resignation. May be he is not paying attention or following the news. The demand for his resignation was widely reported on 7th November. Hence my view on this to the party The stance should be understood. Also, it was not an unfounded comment.” by me.

“I took a stand on this issue after understanding and giving it a lot of thought, as I do on all issues. I was not getting time between my duties and obligations to come here, but I took the first opportunity and I declared my support.” protest,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly VD Satheesan had recently indicated that the Thiruvananthapuram MP did not participate in any agitation by party workers in the state capital, which was Tharoor’s constituency.

In his speech indicating support for the protest, Tharoor said, “Disgust is what I feel, is the word that comes to my mind, when I see the conduct of the mayor and the police.” He also questioned how Mayor Arya Rajendran, the state government and the police would protect the rights of the people if his conduct was like this.

Tharoor further said that Rajendran is holding a constitutional post and therefore, it should not matter to him which party he belongs to or on which party ticket he has won.

“She is everybody’s mayor, just like I am everybody’s MP. But what we see in the letter is that after entering a constitutional office, she is acting as a party representative.”

“It is not only an injustice, it is also a violation of the oath taken by them. It is also a betrayal, a betrayal of the citizens of Kerala, especially the youth. We cannot allow this, we cannot accept this. ” And this is unforgivable,” he lashed out at Rajendran, who has been denying that he had written any such letter.

Tharoor also criticized the police action in the matter, saying four student members of the Kerala Students’ Union (KSU), the student wing of the party, and 14 Youth Congress workers were in jail for the past 18 days for protesting against the mayor.

Besides, Women Congress leader and MP JB Mather had to be hospitalized for five days allegedly due to police assault and two Youth Congress leaders were still in the hospital, he said.
