Incidentless polling in western Tamil Nadu

Out of 15.65 lakh voters registered in 100 wards of the city, only 7.63 lakh had voted for the local body elections on Saturday.

As per the data shared by Coimbatore Corporation the polling percentage is 48.79. Corporation sources said this is likely to increase, but only marginally as COVID-19 persons voted between 5 pm and 6 pm

As the urban local body elections kicked off on Saturday, Tiruppur district recorded a polling percentage of 60.66%.

According to the district administration, 6,88,320 people voted in Tiruppur Corporation, six municipalities and 15 nagar panchayats on Saturday. Male voters (3,47,502) were slightly higher than female voters (3,40,775) and 43 third gender voters exercised their franchise in urban local bodies.

As per the final polling data, among urban local bodies, Nagar Panchayats recorded the highest voter turnout at 75.34%, followed by Municipalities with 66.35% and Tiruppur Corporation at 55.4%.

At the end of polling, 70.54 percent polling percentage was recorded in the district. The polling was 64.36 per cent in Salem Corporation, 76.61 per cent in six municipalities and 78.49 per cent in Nagar Panchayats.

In the elections of Dharmapuri Municipality and 10 Nagar Panchayats, a total of 80.49 percent voting was recorded in Dharmapuri on Saturday. Dharmapuri Municipality polled 81.37% marginally higher than the voting percentage of 10 Nagar Panchayats which polled 80.14%. 64.33% voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm in Krishnagiri. Krishnagiri Municipality polled the highest 74.03% while Nagar Panchayats polled 73.04%. Hosur Corporation, which has the largest number of first-time voters after attaining corporation status, got only 58.50% voter turnout.

The final polling percentage for Krishnagiri Municipality was yet to be declared till 6 pm. Hosur Corporation got 63.97% votes, while Nagar Panchayats got 75.8% votes. Out of 6 Nagar Panchayats, Nagojanahalli recorded 84.07% voter turnout; While Uthangaray polled the lowest with 69.89%. Krishnagiri recorded an average polling percentage of 52.61%, with a high percentage polling till 3 pm in rural nagar panchayats, 47.31% in Hosur Corporation and 60.08% in Krishnagiri municipality. However, the average turnout in the city panchayats was 61.43 per cent, which was higher than the district’s polling average till 3 pm.
