New Delhi: The Income Tax (IT) department on Thursday extended the due date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2020-21 till December 31.
Earlier the due date was extended till September 31 for individuals and till November 30 for companies, mainly in view of the challenges faced by people due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a tweet, the tax department said: “Keeping in view the difficulties in filing ITR by taxpayers under the IT Act, 1961 and audit report for the year 2021-22, CBDT has fixed the date for filing ITR and audit report.” The dates have been further extended for AY 21-22.”

Ever since the launch of the new tax portal, users have been complaining about technical glitches time and again.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that so far around 1.2 crore returns have been filed for the last financial year, more than 76.2 lakh taxpayers have used the online utility of the new portal for the purpose.
