India vs Australia 4th Test: Virat Kohli Played a brilliant innings in the first innings of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad. The former Indian skipper smashed his 28th Test ton in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 480 for India’s strong response. Kohli’s mammoth 186 and Gill’s classy 128 helped India post 571 in the first innings. Meanwhile, Kohli was on the verge of a world record but missed by a whisker.

Kohli was in control throughout the innings. he shook hands with the opener Shubman Gill Played another flamboyant innings on the third day of the match. Kohli brought up his century in the second session on the fourth day and looked set for a double hundred. But the Indian batsman missed out on his 8th Test double century as he was once again dismissed for 186 by Todd Murphy.

Kohli had a chance to create a world record for scoring double hundreds in Tests against the most number of teams. The Indian star has scored seven double centuries, six of which have come against different teams. Had Kohli scored 14 more runs, it would have been his 8th double century and his seventh against seven different countries. No player has a double century against seven different countries as both Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan are set to score double centuries against six different countries.

Kohli equaled compatriot Sunil Gavaskar’s feat of most Test tons by an Indian against Australia and became the joint second Indian on the list. He has scored 8 tons against Australia equal to Gavaskar and three behind Sachin Tendulkar, But Kohli missed out on equaling Sir Don Bradman’s world record for most double hundreds in home Tests. Kohli has scored 6 double hundreds at home and is only 1 behind Bradman’s 7 at home.
