Former Australia assistant coach Sreedharan Sriram is disappointed that spinner Adam Zampa is not with the touring team for the four matches test series against india Starting on 9th February.

Sriram said Zampa could “hold” his action for long periods like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, something that Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson might find difficult in the tough conditions of the subcontinent.

Experienced tweaker Nathan Lyon, Agar, leg-spinner Swepson and young off-spinner Todd Murphy have been included in the 18-man Australia squad, which is missing Zampa.

Sriram, who served the Australian team for six years, has seen Zampa improving his game, and felt that the 30-year-old wrist spinner’s ability to zip the ball was a huge asset to Pat Cummins’ team during the Border-Gavaskar series. Will miss.

Sriram was quoted as saying, “I personally would have liked to see Jumps bowling here (in India), because he’s got pace, he’s got zip off the pitch.” Sydney Morning Herald on Friday.

Sriram, who played eight ODIs for India between 2000 and 2004, said, “That’s something I look out for, the ability to get you off the pitch, so I think Jumps has that.” “

Sriram, also a domestic heavyweight who has scored over 9,500 first-class runs, said that Zampa was extremely keen to tour India and had called him several times.

“He wanted it more than anyone else, he wanted to play Test matches in India, he called me several times a few months back and said, ‘Mr, I’m so excited that I can go on that tour’, So he wanted it and started playing first-class cricket for NSW. He did well, taking three wickets in each innings, so he is very disappointed not to be on this tour.

Sriram said Australia’s test would be the challenge of maintaining spin at a high level for long periods of time.

“You can bowl a little slower or a little faster, but you still need that zip off the pitch, and for that your action needs to be really strong. What Ashwin and Jadeja and Nathan Lyon do really well. , He is able to maintain his action.” For long periods in conditions where it is difficult to bowl, heat or whatever,” Sriram said.

He added that Agar and Swepson may find it difficult to get the same zip as Zampa for extended periods.

“The challenge will be for Swappo and Ash (Agar) to get their act together, to get that same zip off the pitch, even on the third or fourth day, as the innings goes on, and As he goes into his 30th or 35th over, can he still be as effective as he was in his first five or 10 overs.”

Sriram, however, said that Australia have no such concerns in the fast bowling department as Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are masters of their craft.

“Our pacers are very experienced with it, Cummins or Hazlewood, they are very good at coming back in their second or third spells and that’s what makes them great that they are in the modern game, whereas our spinners are not used to them playing such long spells.” Not used to bowling.”

He said that strengthening the technical base ahead of the tough series and keeping an eye on what the opposition team is doing differently is the important aspect.

Sriram said, ‘A lot of spinners in India have rubber bands on their fingers and keep strengthening it, so that your fingers stay strong, they don’t get tired of throwing long spells.’

“And technically you have to keep track of anything they’re doing apart technically. But it’s very important to establish that technical base before a series starts.”
