India vs Canada Women’s Hockey CWG 2022: The Indian women’s hockey team advanced to the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after a 3-2 win over Canada on Wednesday.
After starting the opening match with a stunning 5 goal win against Ghana, the Indian women beat the Welsh women’s team 3 goals to 1.
But, their winning streak was cut short as they went down 1-3 to the English side.

India are third in the Group A rankings with 2 wins and 1 loss from 3 matches and will look to end their group campaign with a win over Canada, who are second in the table.
The two teams are tied on six points each, however, the North American nation is ahead on goal difference.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022, while the two third-placed teams in each group will face the fifth-placed.
India defeated Ghana and Wales to enter their previous match against England. But the British women proved too much to handle the Indian women’s organization as the host country had put them under pressure from the very beginning.
The English team started the scoring after just three minutes of play and Gisele Ainsley put her team forward.
The Indian team was disappointed with the poor finishing as the attacking unit was not at its peak that day. Vandana Kataria’s lone strike saved India from further embarrassment as she found the net in the closing second of the game.
The Indian team lacked a certain sense of coordination between the midfield and the attacking players which proved costly as the central area of the pitch was dominated by the British.
India would look to get a better run out against Canada to finish second in the group standings and seal their way into the semi-finals.
The match is scheduled to begin at 3.30 pm at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre.
