Ind vs NZ ODI today: Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill stitched a 124-run partnership

In the first One Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill shared a 124-run partnership to give a solid start to India’s innings. Gill (50 off 65 balls) was the first to fall to Lockie Ferguson while Devon Conway took a fine catch. Dhawan (72 off 77 balls) was about to leave without adding anything to the scoreboard. Tim Southee took the wicket of the Indian captain and Finn Allen took the catch.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bowl first in the first ODI against India at Eden Park. Williamson rejoined the New Zealand squad on 22 November, after missing a scheduled medical visit in the third Twenty20 International. India won the series 1-0.

India selected two rookies in a young starting lineup. Right-arm pacer Umran Malik and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh will play in their ODI debuts. The four seam bowlers selected by New Zealand are Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Adam Milne and Lockie Ferguson. All-rounder Mitchell Santner provides an option to spin.

Both countries are starting to anticipate the ODI World Cup in India, which is still a year away, after the T20 World Cup gets over. “It’s been a year and every match provides another chance to grow as a team,” Williamson said.
