Team India opener Mayank Agarwal on Sunday said that he had a conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid on how to stick to his plans and be patient while playing on South African pitches.
Virat Kohli’s team dominated the opening day of the ongoing first Test against the Proteas at SuperSport Park here as the visitors clocked 272/3 at stumps. “Well the conversation with Rahul Dravid was about being very disciplined, he was very clear and he said when you are playing in South Africa and other countries, you will not look very good but it is about sticking to your plan and waiting. It’s about doing. Opportunities to score. We were thinking along those lines and I’m glad we did well in the first season.” Mayank said while answering a question from ANI during the virtual press conference.
“To be honest, the plan was to be very disciplined and try to play the balls closer to the stumps. The plan was to drop as many balls as possible and I’m glad we could do that. Talking about his dismissal, Mayank said: “Well, to be honest I’m not allowed to express my opinion on this and I’ll leave it as long as I don’t want to get into the bad books and dock my money.”
When asked about KL Rahul’s innings, Mayank said: “Someone who is watching him closely, he really understands where his off-stump is, he is ready to get in the line of the ball. He is very disciplined with his gameplan and mindset. Whenever he gets it He wants to bat the set.”
“I think the highlight for the team is Rahul’s big century. We have got a good partnership and I hope he continues in the match.” she added.
