India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI: The Indian cricket team started the year 2023 with a bang on Tuesday and the team defeated Sri Lanka by 67 runs. The Men in Blue enjoyed the batting paradise of Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati as they scored a mammoth 373 in the opening ODI of the series. In the second innings, Dasun Shanaka Sri Lanka’s only fighting lead before scoring 306.

It was a batting show at the venue as the Indian batsmen enjoyed the first outing as the surface looked flat. Virat Kohli Whereas Shubman Gill And Rohit Sharma hit their respective fifties. For Sri Lanka, opener Pathum Nissanka and lower middle-order batsman Dasun Shanaka scored fifty and a century respectively. India looked set for a big win, but skipper Shanaka made the Indians work hard and shared a 100-run partnership with Rajitha for the ninth wicket. In the end, India managed to win by 67 runs.

Asked to bat first, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hit their respective half-centuries while Virat Kohli continued from where he left off in the third ODI against Bangladesh. The former Indian captain scored his 45th ODI and 73rd international century to help India post 373. For Sri Lanka, Rajitha took 3 wickets.

Sri Lanka lost regular wickets while chasing the target. Nissanka held one end and scored 73, after which Shanaka struggled a bit. The Sri Lankan captain played an innings of 108 runs. Umran Malik and Siraj took 3 and 2 wickets respectively for India. Both the teams will now travel to Kolkata on January 12 to play the second ODI of the series.
