IND vs ZIM 3rd ODI: Shubman Gill credits Yuvraj Singh’s advice for his maiden century

Gill scored his maiden ODI century during the third match against Zimbabwe.

Gill scored 130 runs in 97 balls with the help of 15 fours and a six. India registered a 13-run win against Zimbabwe and a 3-0 series win.

His innings earned him praise from many former players including Yuvraj.

Gill said in a video uploaded by BCCI, “I met him (Yuvraj) before coming to Zimbabwe and he told me you are batting well and just go there and watch you bat when you are set “

“I was telling him ‘100 nahi aa raha’ (I am not getting that century). And his reply was ‘Don’t worry, it will come’.”

Gill had scored an unbeaten 98 in the previous series against West Indies. He became the third youngest Indian to score an ODI century abroad, after Yuvraj and Virat Kohli,

Gill said, “It was a good wicket to bat on, I got your company and luck was on my side and it was important for me to make the most of this opportunity, I am glad I did. “

Zimbabwe batsman Sikandar Raza also played a special innings of 115 off 95 balls to lead his team to victory, before Gill took a sensational catch in the deep as India emerged victorious by 13 runs.

“The game was very tough. We didn’t expect the game to go so deep, but that’s what cricket is,” he said.

“When the ball went into the air, at first I was thinking, ‘Okay, it’s going to come to me at an easy pace’. But the ball was sinking and I was like ‘It shouldn’t fall down’. So I just Dive to catch.”
