Independence Day 2022: Books Showcasing India’s Freedom Struggle

Happy Independence Day 2022: 15 August is celebrated as Independence Day to commemorate India’s independence from British rule. We celebrate this day to honor the sacrifice of many brave hearts fighting for the freedom of the country. The struggle for independence was long, and many people lost their lives in it. It was on 15 August 1947 that the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the Indian National Flag at the Red Fort in Delhi.

To celebrate this special day, we have compiled a list of books that will educate you about the struggles our country has faced so far:

  1. Partition of India – Haimanti Roy

The book showcases the condition of the prisoners and their approach to the freedom movement based on archival research. In addition, the book contains some personal letters, country newspapers, memoirs, etc.
  3. Discovery of India – Jawaharlal Nehru
    From prehistoric times to the last years of the British Raj, Jawaharlal Nehru’s Discovery of India examines the nation’s rich cultural past. Nehru wrote his book – Discovery of India during his imprisonment (1942–46) at Ahmednagar Fort in Maharashtra.
  4. Remnants of a Separation – Aanchal Malhotra
    Aanchal Malhotra’s book is an attempt to revisit Partition through the items that Partition refugees took with them across the border. His baggage tells of his struggle and sacrifice during some of the toughest days in Indian history.
