India adds 2,259 COVID-19 cases today; Daily death toll rises to 20

India on Friday saw a slight decline in the number of Covid-19 cases with 2,259 cases reported in 24 hours. According to the Union Health Ministry data, the active cases came down to 375, while the death toll rose to 20 in a day. With this, India’s coronavirus tally has increased to 43,131,822.

Currently, the active cases are 15,044 which is 0.44% of the total caseload. According to ministry data, 2,614 people have recovered from Kovid infection in 24 hours.

A total of 5,24,323 people have died. COVID-19 Ever since the pandemic has hit the country, the number of people who have been cured has increased to 4.25 crore. The deaths are 1.225 of the total Covid caseload and the recovery rate is 98.75%.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.50% and the weekly positivity rate was 0.53%.

Cumulative dosage administered in the country so far under Nationwide covid-19 vaccination campaign 191.96 crores. Out of the total vaccination numbers, 100.73 crore people have taken the first shot while 88.01 crore people have been given the second dose. Apart from this, 3.18 crores have received precautionary doses so far.

The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, 2021. And, on April 10, India began giving all people over the age of 18 a precautionary dose of vaccines at private immunization centers.

Separately, India has reported the first confirmed case of the BA.4 Omicron variant as per the recent data available with the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). The group of genetic laboratories is currently working to identify new forms of SARS-CoV-2 from Indian COVID-19 positive patients. This is the first time that the BA.4 version of Omicron has been reported in the country.
