India-China strategic bridge washed away in floods

A strategic bridge between India and China – the Bailey Bridge in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kume district was washed away in a flash flood. A Border Roads Organization (BRO) official said the bridge over the Oyong river near Kororu village connects district headquarters Koloring to Damin, an important link on the India-China border.

Brigadier Anirudh S Kanwar, chief engineer of BRO’s Project Arunank, said the bridge on the Koloriang-Huri road, about a kilometer from Lee, was washed away in the floods on Saturday.

He said the impact was so strong that only one panel of the bridge could be seen 100 meters down.

“Under Project Arunank, 119 Road Construction Company (RCC) of 756 BRTF has mobilized all necessary manpower and machines to work on priority basis to restore it. 119 RCC Officer, Roshan and Platoon Commander Major Mohit Kumar The site is working,” he said.

Kurung Kume Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ocean Gao said that he has assured all possible help for the speedy restoration of road connectivity.
