India has secured a significant share of global fintech investment: KPMG

Globally, the payments sector alone saw investments of $51.7 billion in 2021, up from $29.1 billion in 2020, KPMG said in a report.

KPMG said in a report that total global fintech funding in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) reached $210 billion in 2021 across 5,684 deals. Interestingly, India has captured a significant portion of these investments, the report indicates.

Sanjay Doshi, Partner and Head, Financial Services Advisory, KPMG in India, said, “Four of the top 10 fintech deals in ASPAC, starting with India, reflect the country’s growing influence on the fintech space.”

Globally, the payments sector alone saw $51.7 billion in investments in 2021, up from $29.1 billion in 2020. Furthermore, investments in the blockchain and crypto space grew to $30.2 billion in 2021 from $5.5 billion in the previous year. According to the report, cybersecurity and wealthtech have captured investments worth $4.85 billion and $1.62 billion, respectively.
