India names junior women’s hockey team to tour South Africa

The young Indian unit will play a series of matches against the touring South African junior women’s hockey team and the South African A team from February 17 to 25.

Hockey India On Tuesday announced the Indian junior women’s team for the tour of South Africa, which starts on February 14.

The Indian team, to be led by Preethi as captain and Rutaja Dadasso Pisal as vice-captain, will play a series of matches against the South African junior women’s hockey team and the South Africa A team from February 17 to 25 on the tour.

India’s forward line includes Deepika Soreng, Deepika, Sunalita Toppo, Madugula Bhavani, Annu and Taranpreet Kaur. Jyoti Chhatri, Manju Chaurasia, Hina Banu, Nikita Toppo, Ritika Singh, Sakshi Rana and Rutaja Dadaso Pisal have been given chances in the midfield.

Preeti, Jyoti Singh, Neelam, Mahima Tete and Mamita Oram constitute the Indian defense line-up on tour.

Apart from the 20 players, Aditi Maheshwari, Anjali Barwa, Edula Jyoti and Bhumisha Sahu have been named as the four reserve players in the squad.

“This tour is a good opportunity for us to test our young batch of talented players and give them the right kind of exposure. It is important for us to ensure that we continue to give enough playing opportunities to players who are showing signs of progress. We hope to get good results on the tour,” said head coach Janke Schoepmann.
