India-Nepal rail service: Projects, routes, cost in 10 points – Times of India

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and their Nepali counterparts Sher Bahadur Deuba will jointly inaugurate India-Nepal rail Services through videoconferencing at an event at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Saturday.
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway (ECR) Birendra Kumar It has said that the commencement of the much-awaited rail services will give further impetus to the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Ten things to know about Services, Marg:
1. The 35-km Jayanagar-Kurth rail service between India and Nepal will be inaugurated on Saturday during Deuba’s first visit to India after assuming office in July 2021.
2. Train will criss-cross from service Jaynagar in Bihar kurtha In Janakpur, Nepal. The Jayanagar–Kurth section is part of the 68.7 km Jayanagar–Bijalpura–Bardidas rail link.
3. The Government of India has spent about Rs 550 crore for the section up to Bijalpura which is 17 km ahead of Kurtha. After Bijalpura, a new line will be constructed up to Bardibas after the Nepal government handed over the land for the project. Jayanagar is 4 km from the Indo-Nepal border. In this route, the famous pilgrimage center of Nepal is Janakpur, which is 29 km away from Jayanagar.
4. 2 sets of 1600 HP DEMU Passenger Rakes have been supplied by Konkan Rail Corporation Limited (KRCL) to operate the rail service on this route. These 2 DEMU rakes have 2 AC coaches each in addition to non-AC coaches. These 2 rakes were handed over to Nepal on 18th September, 2020.
5. IRCON International Limited, an arm of the Railways, has been entrusted with the task of completing the project in three phases. The project is being undertaken by IRCON and all rail engineering and infrastructure works have been completed.
6. “The first and second phases of the project between Jayanagar and Kurtha and Kurtha and Bijalpura, respectively, have already been completed. The work on the third phase of the 69 km section between Bijalpura and Bardibas is in full swing,” said East Central Railway (ECR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Birendra Kumar has said.
7. The CPRO said that railway experts have allowed the movement of passenger trains between Jaynagar and Kurtha at a speed of 100 kmph. The speed limit of goods trains on this route has been fixed at 65 km per hour.
8. Indian Railways is providing full support to Nepal in running the BG service by sharing information and operation and maintenance procedures with Nepal Railway Company as well as providing training to the Nepalese authorities. A draft SOP for starting passenger train operations in the section has been prepared and shared by India with Nepal Railways.
9. KRCL is being considered by the Nepal Railway Company to take over the operation and maintenance of this line until the Nepal Railway Company is able to do so itself.
10. This will be the first broad gauge passenger rail service in Nepal. Earlier till 2014 a narrow gauge service was running between Jayanagar and Janakpur operated by Nepal. The rail service between Jayanagar and Bijalpura in Nepal was first started by the British in 1937. It was suspended in 2001 after devastating floods in Nepal.
