Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Thursday India Paying the price for the “mistakes” made by the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on Kashmir and slammed the Congress for defending them. His remarks came after the Congress attacked Rijiju for his writing “Five Nehruvian Blunders on Kashmir”.

talking to CNN-News18The Law Minister said that the Congress has spread a false story about Kashmir over the years. I don’t want to go into what Jairam Ramesh said… I am speaking with facts. Corrective steps have been taken to undo the mistake made by our PM. The country should not go through the false narrative spread by Congress over the years… I have all the facts. Despite the entire Jammu and Kashmir being a part of India, a part of it is with Pakistan. How can we keep silent on this issue? This fact cannot be ignored,” the Law Minister said when asked about Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s claim that Nehru was not alone in his decisions on Kashmir.

In a tweet on October 13, Ramesh said, “Maharaja Hari Singh ignored the merger. There were dreams of independence. But when Pakistan invaded, Hari Singh joined India. Sheikh Abdullah completely followed Nehru. He supported the accession to India because of his friendship and admiration and his respect for Gandhi. Sardar Patel was well off Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan until September 13, 1947, when the Nawab of Junagadh joined Pakistan.

Rijiju declined to comment on Sardar Patel’s claims. He also said that he does not want to get into any argument with Congress leaders who criticized him.

Another Congress leader Pawan Khera on Thursday called Rijiju “the biggest student of WhatsApp University” for his comments on Nehru and Kashmir.

“Rijiju seems to be the most promising student of BJP’s WhatsApp University. He is spreading such mistakes without any facts or truth. Congress will provide history books to BJP if needed so that they can know what is the real history. Only in the last 8 years has the situation worsened in Kashmir,” said Kheda CNN-News18,

Rijiju hit back by saying that he had written about Nehru’s “mistakes” with the help of Parliament documents. “Congress is trying to defend Nehru ji for his mistakes. Whatever I have said is to put the record directly in front of the country to recognize the mistakes of Nehru ji. This fact is on record. The documents I have quoted are from Parliament. Nehru himself has said that Maharaj himself had approached India to join. India had to pay a heavy price for the mistakes committed by Nehru, the price of which we are paying till today.

Minister in his column www.news18.comSaid that a historical lie has been spread for the last seven decades that Kashmir was also one of the princely states that created problems and the then ruler of the state, Maharaja Hari Singh, was adamant on joining India.

He said, “As the documents now show, it was Nehru who created these problems to fulfill his personal agenda and not the Maharaja.”

The minister further said that the void that Nehru had created in Kashmir allowed Pakistan to interfere in Kashmir, and eventually, under the guise of local tribals, his army invaded the region on October 20, 1947. “Even then Nehru was adamant. The Pakistani army was advancing rapidly in Kashmir. Maharaja Hari Singh then requested Nehru to join the Indian Union. But Nehru was still in talks to fulfill his personal agenda,” Rijiju wrote.

Hitting out at the Law Minister, Congress general secretary in-charge for communications Jairam Ramesh said Rijiju was telling some lies which he picked up from his “boss”. “He doesn’t have guts. He’s lying some lie he picked up from his boss,” he tweeted.
