India reports 2.58 lakh COVID cases, 385 deaths in 24 hours; 8,209. on Omicron Tally

India added 2,58,089 new coronavirus infections, according to the Union Health Ministry’s updated data on Monday, taking the total number of Covid-19 cases to 37,380,243, including 8,209 cases from the Omicron version. The country saw 466 new cases of the Omicron variant today – an increase of 6.02% from Sunday.

Experts said it is not possible to sequence the genome of every sample, but emphasized that the wave is being driven largely by Omicron.

Active cases have risen to 16,56,341, while the death toll has risen to 4,86,451 with 385 fresh deaths, data updated at 8 am. The active COVID-19 caseload has registered an increase of 1,05,964 cases in the 24-hour period.

The ministry said active cases comprise 4.43% of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has come down to 94.27%.

According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 19.65%, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 14.41%.

The number of people recovering from the disease increased to 3,52,37,461, while the death rate was recorded at 1.31 percent.

The cumulative dose administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID vaccination campaign has exceeded 156.76 crores.
