India reports 34,403 new COVID-19 cases; Kerala has more than half the cases

India has registered 34,403 new Covid positive cases in 24 hours. According to health ministry data, the number of active cases has risen to 3,39,056 on Friday. The total number of people who have been cured has increased to 3,25,98,424. The data showed that there has been a decrease of 3,867 cases in the active Covid-19 caseload in the 24-hour period.

According to ICMR data, this week the Covid testing has also gone up to an average of 15 lakh per day. So far 54.92 crore Kovid tests have been done in the country.

Kerala has 22,182 cases out of the total 34,403 cases reported in 24 hours.

After logging 17,681 on Wednesday, the state has again seen a rise in the daily infection count. Around 68% of the total COVID-19 cases reported in India are from Kerala. Kerala has also reported the highest number of deaths in a single day in the country at 178. The state has vaccinated more than five lakh people with the dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours.

Apart from Kerala, five other states – Mizoram, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra – are also witnessing an increase in daily new Covid-19 cases, according to the Union Health Ministry. At present, there are more than 10,000 active cases in six states.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Dr Balram Bhargava raised concerns about the upcoming festive season, which could create a favorable environment for the spread of the virus.

He urged the states to expedite the vaccination process and implement strict COVID-19 rules to reduce the transmission of the virus.

India’s daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.25%. It’s down from 3% for 18 days.

And, the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.97%. According to the health ministry, the figure is down from 3% for 84 days.

According to the ministry, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide immunization drive has exceeded 77.24 crore.
