India sees slight drop in daily Covid-19 cases, records 19,406 fresh infections

India saw a slight decline in Covid-19 cases on Saturday taking the country’s active caseload to 1,34,793 with 19,406 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The daily positivity rate is 4.96% while the weekly positivity rate is 4.63%.

A total of 19,928 people have recovered from corona virus infection in the last 24 hours, while the total number of people who have been cured is 4,34,65,552. The recovery rate in India is 98.50 percent.

The country has conducted over 3,91,187 Covid tests in the last 24 hours.

Under the COVID-19 Nationwide Immunization Programme, a total of 32,73,551 doses were administered in the last 24 hours, while more than 205.92 crore vaccine jabs have been administered to eligible beneficiaries in the country so far.

The Health Ministry also informed that India has now given more than 100 million precautionary doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

“This has been achieved through collective efforts. India has given more than 10 crore (100 million) precautionary doses. 10 crore people now have an extra level of security. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted on Friday, ‘Covid Vaccination Amrit Mahotsav’ is in full swing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide free precautionary doses for all adults.

This comes after the central government provided free precautionary facility to all adults in the age group of 18-75 years at government COVID vaccination centers as part of the 75-day booster drive.

Concerned about the renewed rise in cases in the country, the central government had expressed concern to states and union territories showing low infection and positivity rates and low levels of testing and vaccination.

Health experts have recommended various measures to mitigate the situation of rising COVID-19 cases in the country. On Thursday, an expert said that the Covid-19 cases are definitely increasing, but the symptoms are mild, he said, “The cases of Kovid are definitely increasing, Delhi also reported over 2,000 cases yesterday. But most Patients have very mild symptoms.”
