India stresses need to maintain peace at UNSC

Following the recent death of peacekeepers, including two Indian BSF jawans, in Congo, India on Wednesday insisted on maintaining and maintaining peace at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

“The Peace Building Commission (PBC) should exercise its coordinating role more effectively. It should involve itself more actively in the activities of the Peace Building Fund to address the fiscal deficit” Ambassador R Ravindra, in-charge d’affaires, United Nations Security Council told ANI.

India has recognized the importance of PBC since its inception and deeply appreciates its advisory, bridging and coordinating roles.

“There has been a paradigm shift in our approach to addressing conflicts, from resolution, reconciliation and recovery to prevention and reconstruction,” Ravindra said.

Mr. Ravindra mentioned inclusive economic growth, sustainable development and political processes, all of which are essential components of ongoing conflict prevention and peace-building efforts.

“We recognize that the PBC requires increased support and increased attention from Member-States in fulfilling its mandate. We emphasize that inclusivity is cardinal in advancing national peacebuilding objectives. Peacekeeping An exclusively donor-driven approach to manufacturing may not be the most prudent route to follow,” Ravindra said.

He encouraged merit and in-depth study to further increase financial support for peace building activities.

Ravindra said, “The ongoing discourse on increased financial support for peacebuilding activities through sources other than voluntary contributions deserves a thorough and careful study of the impacts on the UN ecosystem. Any decision to this effect is warranted. should be based on consensus.”

He also talked about active participation in the activities of the Peace Building Fund to meet the deficit.

“The advisory role of the PBC should be exercised judiciously, as and when required. It should be more actively involved in the activities of the Peace Building Fund to address the fiscal deficit,” Ravindra said.

India contributes one of the highest T/PCC (Military/Police Contributing Countries) United Nations peacekeeping Mission. National ownership of member states and respect for developmental goals is India’s core vision for peacekeeping missions.

India assists countries at the national and multilateral level by contributing grants and easy term loans in post-conflict situations.

“going forward, India Will continue to be a force multiplier for peace building efforts. We hope that these efforts will always be driven by a “people-centric” approach,” the Indian envoy told ANI.
