The Biden administration has said that India and the US are in complete agreement that the restoration of lasting peace in Ukraine is essential.

State Department spokesman Ned Price also said that his country is communicating very closely with its allies and partners, including India conflict in ukraine And that the international community strongly recognizes the need to hold Russia accountable.

“We strongly agree with India that restoration of a sustainable peace in Ukraine is essential. This is the same message issued by the President (Volodymyr) Zelensky himself. During the G-20, he spoke to world leaders, laying out his vision for a just peace. It is something we very much welcome,” he told reporters at his daily news conference on Friday.

“We welcome India’s support for the people of Ukraine. India has provided humanitarian assistance And India called for an immediate end to Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine. We also agree to a great extent with Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s statement that today’s era is not an era of war. Of course, it was a remark that resonated in the G-20. We have heard that comment even in the United Nations.

The United States believes that countries like India that have ties to Russia and Ukraine may be in a position to help bring about dialogue and diplomacy that may one day end this war, Mr. Price said.

“I say one day, and I put it in the conditional because there is one country that has definitely shown no desire to end this war, to end this brutal aggression, and that is definitely Russia,” Foreign Department official said.

Even in the context of recent discussions, “we took note of the Kremlin’s statement that the Kremlin is ready to engage in dialogue, but only if new regional realities are recognised”, he said.

In response to a question, Mr. Price said that the United States is in very close dialogue with all of its allies and partners around the world on the question of Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine.

“Of course, this includes India as well. The international community strongly recognizes the need to hold Russia to account for the atrocities committed by Russia and its forces in Ukraine,” he said.

“Russia’s war has affected not only Ukraine. As important as Ukraine is, and this conflict, this war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, it’s huge in a sense. It has affected countries around the world in some way,” Price said.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said during his November visit to Moscow He said that “this war after two years of the Covid pandemic has caused significant economic pain, especially for developing countries”.

“We have seen rising food prices, rising energy prices, upward pressure on inflation around the world. All this is exacerbated by Russia’s illegal unprovoked war against Ukraine. We have been in regular close contact with India about what we can do to hold Russia accountable and impose additional costs on Russia for its war,” Mr Price said.

“We may not always share the same policy approach, but we both share a commitment to upholding a rules-based international order that respects territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he said.

It is at the heart of the United States’ global strategic partnership with India, and it is at the heart of “what we want to do with the Quad, along with other bilateral and multilateral work we do with our Indian partners”. Price said.
