After playing a brilliant innings, India Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha said he is happy to contribute to the cause of the team during the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium here on Sunday. The 37-year-old, who did not take wickets on the third day due to a stiff neck, played a solid innings (61 not out) and impressed everyone with his fighting spirit.
A pain in his neck forced Saha to change his batting stance and the physio also came during the break to check on him, but he batted to put India in the driver’s seat amidst all this. “Success is not in what you have, but in who you are. Delighted to contribute to the team. @BCCI,” wrote Saha on his Twitter handle.
Former India cricketer VVS Laxman also lauded the wicketkeeper’s half-century in Kanpur. “What a wonderful fifty from @Wriddhipops. Fighting hard neck and showing that fighting and determination reflects the true character of this champion player. Keep it up Riddhi #NZvIND,” tweeted Laxman, who has teamed up with Saha at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
New Zealand were at 4/1 at stumps in the fourth day of the ongoing first Test against India. With just one day left in the match, New Zealand now have a tall order of 280 runs and nine wickets in hand.
