India vs West Indies: Dhawan, Shreyas and Ruturaj among players to test Covid-19 positive ahead of ODI series

Ahead of the upcoming limited overs series against West Indies, some Indian players and members of the support staff have tested positive for COVID-19 at their camp in Ahmedabad. Team India members who have contracted the virus are in quarantine. At present, further updates are awaited from the medical staff of BCCI.

Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad and batsman Shreyas Iyer are among the players who have tested positive for Covid-19, India Today understands.

The BCCI has decided to conduct a fresh COVID test on Thursday morning before deciding on the next course of action.

India players arrived in Ahmedabad earlier this week while West Indies players reached the city earlier in the day.

India will play 3 ODIs against West Indies in Ahmedabad from Sunday, February 6. Both the teams also play a 3-match T20I series in Kolkata from 16 February.

Notably, the selectors had selected an 18-man squad led by Rohit Sharma for the 3-match series which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Initially, BCCI had chosen Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram as Venus for the ODI and T20I series. However, the board reduced the venues to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection between the camps and allotted ODIs to Ahmedabad and T20Is to Kolkata.

No fans for ODI series at Narendra Modi Stadium

The Gujarat Cricket Association confirmed earlier this week that fans would not be allowed to watch matches from the stands of the Narendra Modi Stadium due to the Omicron threat in the country.

However, the Cricket Association of Bengal said that the Eden Gardens will have a maximum attendance of 70 percent for the T20 series.

CAB President Avishek Dalmiya thanked the West Bengal government for allowing fans to participate in the T20I series. Notably, Kolkata hosted the third T20I of New Zealand’s tour of India last year, with the Eden Gardens running at 50 per cent capacity.

Avishek said in a statement, “We are grateful to the Honorable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Secretary and the Government of West Bengal for announcing the resumption of sports activities as well as allowing 75 per cent of the spectators capacity back to the stadium. Gave.” ,
