Indian equity indices started the new month of July on a negative note amid continued volatility in global markets. The Sensex was down 304.23 points or 0.57 per cent at 52,714.71 at 9.40 am, while the Nifty was down 122.40 points or 0.78 per cent at 15,657.85.
