Indian men won the first gold

The Indian men’s team clinched its maiden gold medal with a comfortable 2-0 win over Kuwait in the final at the Asian Team Squash Championships in Chengdu, South Korea on Friday.

Ramit Tandon won the opening rubber against Ali Alramezzi while India’s No. 1 Saurav Ghoshal finished the match with a straight game win over Ammar Altamimi.

India had won all their group matches, with a total of five matches. India won the silver medal in 2021, 2012 and 1981 and won the bronze medal seven times.

talking to HinduGhosal said: “It’s really nice to see Asian teams win at the end. We’ve been pretty close before. It’s great to do. The whole team put in their effort. The semi-final against Malaysia was a very tough fight, and we were delighted. It is a matter of pride that we were successful in it. It is very good for Indian squash.”

Result (final): India beat Kuwait 2-0 (Ramit Tandon bt Ali Alramzi 11-5, 11-7, 11-4; Saurav Ghoshal bt Ammar Altamimi 11-9, 11-2, 11-3).
