IPL 2022: Lasith Malinga has been appointed as the fast bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals

Former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga was appointed as the new fast bowling coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR), ahead of the upcoming season of the cash-rich league. Malinga will join RR’s management staff, which will include his former Sri Lanka teammate Kumara Sangakkara, who is the director of cricket as well as the franchise. Malinga, who won four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians, last featured in the tournament during the 2019 season. Notably, Malinga is the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL with 170 wickets.

Malinga announced his retirement from all forms of the game in January 2021. RR, who won the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, failed to qualify for the playoffs last season, finishing seventh with 10 points from 14 games.

However, RR added a lot of firepower to his squad during the IPL mega auction last month.

During the IPL auction, RR picked Shimron Hetmyer, Devdutt Padikkal, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin among others.
