Indian Railways hikes platform ticket prices at stations due to this reason

As the country celebrates after a two-year halt due to the dreadful COVID-19 pandemic, Indian Railways is trying its level best to ensure utmost comfort to passengers during the festive season. Even though Indian Railways has started special train services during Navratri and Durga Puja, it is still facing problems in managing the rush of passengers. Hence, to control the overcrowding, Southern Railway has increased the platform ticket price at several stations including Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Southern Railway has hiked platform ticket prices at eight major railway stations in Chennai and suburbs. The ticket price has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 20 on October 1 and will be effective till January 31.

The railway stations for which platform ticket rates have been increased include Dr. MGR Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Tambaram and Katpadi stations. In addition, stations such as Chengalpattu, Arakkonam, Tiruvallur and Avadi will also experience an increase in platform ticket prices. Southern Railway requested the users to note down the details and enhance cooperation.

Apart from these stations, the platform ticket prices have also increased at Vijayawada station in Andhra Pradesh. Due to the rush of Dussehra festival, the price of tickets has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 30 and will be effective till October 9.

Central Railway has also increased the platform ticket price at several railway stations in Mumbai. Central Railway said in a press release that this step has been taken to tackle the problem of overcrowding at stations during Dussehra festival. Platform tickets will be available at enhanced rates at Dadar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus stations. Ticket prices will also increase at Thane, Kalyan and Panvel stations of Mumbai division.
