Indian Railways records best ever freight business in 2022-23

New Delhi [India]April 3 (ANI): Indian Railways has registered the best ever performance in the freight segment in its recorded history during the recently concluded financial year 2022-23.

Railways has achieved a freight loading of 1,512 metric tonnes (million tonnes), which is an incremental loading of 94 metric tonnes against the previous best of 1,418 metric tonnes achieved in 2021-22, according to preliminary data from the Ministry of Railways.

Indian Railways achieves incremental loading of 74.6 MT in Coal, 8.7 MT in Other Goods, 5.6 MT in Cement & Clinker, 7.1 MT in Fertilizers, 5 MT in Containers, and 4 MT in Petroleum, Oil & Lubricants is of.

In a release on Sunday evening, the Ministry of Railways said that Indian Railways’ efforts to increase coal supply to power stations in coordination with the Ministry of Power and Coal has been one of the key features of freight performance in 2022-23. ,

Loading of coal (both domestic and imported) to power stations to increase by 84 MT in 2022-23, with 569 MT of coal being moved to power stations as against 485 MT last year – an increase of 17.3 per cent.

“With the excellent performance in coal transportation to power stations, increase in automobile loading has been another highlight of the freight business in 2022-23 and 5,527 rakes have been loaded in FY 2022-23 as against 3,344 rakes last year i.e. 65 There was an increase. per cent,” the ministry’s release said.

In addition, the gross revenue from freight traffic for the Railways is expected to exceed Rs 1.6 lakh crore with a growth rate of 14 per cent. Also, passenger revenue is expected to exceed Rs 60,000 crore with a growth of over 60 per cent.
