New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah Said on Friday that the Indian security agencies have been successful in establishing their supremacy and now no one can ignore the country in any field nor stop anyone from moving forward.
Addressing the inaugural session of the three-day conference of Directors General of Police and Inspectors General of Police here, he said India is now definitely safe, strong and in good shape under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PMO said in a release that Prime Minister Modi will participate in the All India Conference of Directors General of Police and Inspectors General of Police. National Agricultural Science Complex,
“Since 2014, the Prime Minister has taken keen interest in dgp conference, In contrast to the token presence of earlier prime ministers, he sits in all key sessions of the conference.”
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) release said that the Prime Minister not only listens to all information patiently, but also encourages free and informal discussions so that new ideas can emerge.
It provides a conducive environment for the country’s top police officers to directly brief the Prime Minister on key policing and internal security issues and make open and candid recommendations.
Guided by the Prime Minister’s vision, the conference has initiated discussions on future themes in policing and security, the release said.
On the first day of the conference, the Home Minister also distributed police medals for meritorious service and presented trophies to the top three police stations of the country.
Officials said topics such as security challenges along the land borders with Nepal and Myanmar, strategy to identify foreigners with long-term stay in India and targeting Maoist strongholds were discussed.
Over the next two days, the country’s top police leadership will hold discussions with experts, field officials and academicians on emerging security challenges and opportunities.
He said, “Indian security agencies under the leadership of Modi have been successful in establishing their supremacy. Today neither anyone can ignore India in any field nor can anyone stop you from moving forward.”
Shah said that earlier the problems of the country were geographical, now the problems are becoming thematic and for this the security agencies will have to bring about a complete change in their strategy and approach.
“Earlier we had single dimensional problems, but now the problems are multi-dimensional. To deal with them, we have to be two steps ahead of the perpetrators. We have to rapidly change the way urban policing is done. Even on capacity building Police needs a lot of attention,” he said.
Shah said that the police have to be empowered to make internal security impregnable and the Modi government and the home ministry will extend full cooperation to the states.
Referring to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, he said that there was a time when children of Jammu and Kashmir used to go to study in other parts of the country due to terrorism. “But today 32,000 children from other parts of the country are studying in Jammu and Kashmir,” Shah said. He said, ‘Similarly, the amount of investment that has come in the last four years is much more than the investment that has come in the last 70 years in Jammu and Kashmir.’
