Indian startups to launch space satellites soon: Minister Jitendra Singh

Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said Indian startups will soon launch space satellites as well as satellite constellations and test their rockets.

Speaking at the India Space Conclave here on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Indian Space Association, ISPA, Jitendra Singh said PM Modi’s “revolutionary and out-of-the-box decision” to unlock space The sector changed the very nature of the country’s space ecosystem for private industry in June 2020.

He expressed hope that India’s young technology wizards will overcome new hurdles in the field of space technology while they are ready to address the limitless opportunities offered by the space sector.

The Minister appreciated the role played by ISPA in developing and creating global connectivity for the growth of the Indian space industry in a short span of one year. He said that ISPA members are constantly striving to make policy advocacy and engage in exchange of knowledge and vision to make India a flag bearer in the field of space technology.

ISPA is acting as a major contributor to the Government of India’s efforts to make India a leader in commercial space-based travel. He said that for this the role of ISPA as a commune becomes important and crucial for consultation among key stakeholders.

The Minister expressed hope that ISPA would usher in significant technological advancements and investments in the country keeping high with the motto of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ which would eventually create high-skilled employment opportunities following the Government’s vision for space reforms.

Focusing on the strategic relevance of space in the wake of recent global conflicts, Jitendra Singh said that space, a dual-use technology domain, is emerging as an important multi-faceted enabler that offers unprecedented access.

He said that many nations today are focused on developing their military space capabilities to ensure its safe, secure and friendly use while denying it to adversaries when needed.

Singh elaborated that India has also resolved to take advantage of the strength of this emerging dimension of warfare, and in fact, the Government of India to ensure “our private industrial capacity and capability is effectively operational” in the space sector. It is taking strong and decisive steps towards ensuring Atmanirbharta. and channelized to develop state-of-the-art solutions that will give India a decisive edge over our others in times to come”.
