Conversion controversy: Police will interrogate AAP leader Rajendra Pal Gautam? Former minister said – no notice was received

Former Delhi minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, who stepped down amid controversy over his appearance at a religious conversion event, on Monday claimed that he has not received any notice from Delhi Police regarding further investigation in the matter. Police are set to question Gautam on Tuesday over his presence at an event where Hindu deities were allegedly condemned.

The former minister said that the police has already visited his house and inquired about the incident, in case of further questioning, he will cooperate with the police.

“I have not received any notice from Delhi Police. Some Delhi Police officials came to my house around 4 pm to inquire about the oath dispute case. I have given complete information. In case of further inquiry or any notice, I will cooperate,” he said.

A senior official said today that notice has been issued to Gautam to appear for questioning along with some others. “He will be questioned about his attendance at the event and he will be asked for details about what actually happened there,” the official said.

Gautam resigns after controversy

Gautam resigned from his post on Sunday following a controversy over his attendance at the religious conversion programme.

The BJP had used the issue to attack Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal during the election campaign in Gujarat and accused him of being “anti-Hindu”.

In a letter shared on Twitter, Gautam said that he attended the event in his personal capacity and it had nothing to do with his party or ministry. He hit out at the BJP for targeting Kejriwal and AAP and alleged that the saffron party was doing “dirty politics” on the issue.

Gautam, who was the social welfare, SC and ST minister, registrar of cooperative societies and gurdwara elections, said he was resigning as the minister as he did not want his leader or AAP to be in trouble because of him.
