Indian trap shooters in position to make finals of ISSF World Cup

Three Indian shotgun shooters Bhonish Mendiratta, Prithviraj Tondaiman and Rajeshwari Kumari ended the second day of trap qualification with a fighting chance of qualifying for the top eight at the ISSF World Cup here on May 3.

Paris Olympic quota winner Mendiratta was bested with a four-round score of 94, moving him to 11th place among medal contenders. Her senior, Prithviraj, was tied 13th with an identical score, while in women’s trap, Rajeshwari shot 88 over two days to finish 14th in a 55-shooter field.

Mendiratta shot rounds of 25 and 23 respectively to advance from their overnight positions, while Prithviraj had rounds of 24 and 23. In men’s trap, the third Indian Zorawar Sandhu shot 91 to finish tied-36th.

In women’s trap, besides Rajeshwari, Preeti Rajak shot 85 to finish 25th while Shreyasi Singh shot 84 to finish 27th.

The shooters will be back on Thursday for the fifth and final qualification round before the start of the finals.
