Indians being brought back from Sudan under the supervision of V Muraleedharan: PM Modi

The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Kerala.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Union government has launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to bring back Indians from violence-hit Sudan and it will be monitored by Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan. Delivering a message to the people at a ‘Yuvam’ convention here, Modi said Kerala’s son – Muraleedharan – would oversee the drive to bring back the restored people.

The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Kerala, where he will flag off the Vande Bharat Express and attend a series of events, including a meeting with top clergy of the state’s influential Christian community.

On the day the Sudan evacuation operation was announced, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar did.

India on Sunday said it has stationed two transport shuttles of the Indian Air Force in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah and a naval ship at a major port in Sudan as part of a foolproof plan to bring back stranded Indians.

In a high-level meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed to prepare contingency plans for the safe evacuation of over 3000 Indians from Sudan.

It is to be known that in Sudan, more than 400 people have lost their lives in a fierce sea battle between the army there and a paramilitary group for the last 11 days.
