The 21-year-old from Punjab, who represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021 held in Eilat, Israel, took the crown after 21 years. Lara Dutta Won the title in 2000.
He knocked out competitors Paraguay and South Africa to claim the crown.
Sandhu was crowned by former Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meja of Mexico at the event, which was live-streamed globally.
The first and second runners-up were Paraguay and South Africa, respectively.
As part of the top three rounds, contestants were asked, “What advice would you give to young women dealing with today’s pressures”.
To this Harnaaz said, “The biggest pressure that today’s youth is facing is to believe in yourself. Knowing that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself to others and go around the world.” Talk about more important things happening. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are your voice. The model-actress was crowned Miss Universe India 2021 in October. Harnaaz began her beauty pageant journey in 2017 with Times Fresh Face Back. The 21-year-old diva is currently pursuing her Masters in Public Administration. She has also won many pageant titles like Femina Miss India Punjab 2019. She has also acted in many Punjabi movies.
During an interaction at Times Fresh Face 2021, Harnaaz spoke about her preparation to represent India for the Miss Universe crown. “I believe I am the only candidate who has got the least amount of time to prepare, but the team is putting in a lot of effort to bring out the best version from India.
