India’s representative Mukul Arya dies in Ramallah – Henry Club

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that Mukul Arya, India’s representative in Ramallah, Palestine, passed away on Sunday.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Deeply shocked to learn about the passing away of Shri Mukul Arya, Representative of India in Ramallah.” “He was a bright and talented officer, he had a lot in front of him. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti,” he said.

It was not immediately known how he died.

Arya, a 2008 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, had worked in the Indian embassies in Kabul and Moscow. He also served in the Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO in Paris. Arya also served at the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

He studied economics at Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University before joining the Indian Foreign Service.

The top leadership of Palestine on Sunday condoled the death of Mukul Arya, India’s representative to the state of Palestine, at his workplace.

On this sad occasion, Dr. Riyadh Al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas, expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar and through him to the friendly Government of India, Representative Arya’s family and their relatives.

The Ministry of External Affairs and expatriates also expressed their deep sorrow, loss and pain at the passing away of Representative Arya in a statement.

The ministry said that it is in its official touch with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to work out the arrangements for taking the body of the deceased to India for burial.

“As soon as this painful news arrived, immediate instructions were issued from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Dr Muhammad Shtayyeh to all security, police and public officials,” it said.

Arya, 38, was a career diplomat who served in the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi, apart from serving on India’s permanent delegation to UNESCO in Paris and India’s embassies in Kabul and Moscow.

According to the website of the Representative Office of India in Ramallah, Palestine, he was raised and educated in Delhi, studied economics at Delhi University and JNU, before joining the Indian Foreign Service in 2008.
