India’s Winter Olympics contingent manager tests positive in Beijing

India’s Winter Olympic contingent manager Mohammad Abbas Wani has tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival at the Beijing airport.

Abbas Wani is part of a six-member Indian delegation to the Winter Olympics, for which player Arif Khan from Kashmir is the only athlete from the country to qualify this time. Arif will participate in slalom and giant slalom events during the Games.

The team includes Harjinder Singh as its chef de mission, Luder Chand Thakur as alpine coach, Puran Chand as technician and Rope Chand Negi as team official.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra informed about the positive COVID result of Abbas Wani and said that Chef de Mission Harjinder is coordinating with the Winter Olympics organizers for the re-testing.

“Indian contingent manager Mr. Abbas Wani tested COVID positive at Beijing airport. Chef de mission Mr. Harjinder Singh is coordinating the re-testing.

“The athlete and his coach have been shifted to another flat to avoid any interaction,” Batra said.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to 20.
