IndiGo appoints Vikram Singh Mehta, former Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa to its board

New Delhi: IndiGo, promoted by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, has appointed former chairman of Shell group companies in India Vikram Singh Mehta and former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa as independent non-executive directors on the airline’s board.

However, these appointments are subject to security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and approval of the company’s members, the country’s largest domestic airline said in a statement.

Mehta will replace Anupam Khanna, whose second term on the board ended on March 26, IndiGo added in the statement.

Mehta, who is currently the chairman of a think-tank called CSEP (Center for Social and Economic Progress), is also on the board of Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University and others. Global Advisory Board of Macro Advisory Partners

Dhanoa replaces Melvetil Damodaran, who is stepping down as an independent director on May 3.

According to IndiGo, the airline’s board of directors includes Pallavi Shardul Shroff, managing partner of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, Venkataramani Sumantran, assistant professor at MISI-Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rahul Bhatia, promoter and managing director, Rohini Bhatia, and Rohini Bhatia. Chief Executive Officer Ronojoy Dutta, aviation industry veteran Greg Albert Saratsky, and Anil Parashar, InterGlobe Group Executive Committee members.

“All of us at IndiGo are ‘absolutely’ thrilled to have two such distinguished personalities on our board,” Ronojoy Dutta said in the statement.

“Mehta brings years of experience running large corporations and a wealth of knowledge from serving on some of the leading boards of India. We will greatly benefit from Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa’s exemplary leadership and crisis management skills.”
