Amid suspense over the role of election strategist Prashant Kishor in the Congress, party president Sonia Gandhi on Monday decided to form an ’empowered action group’ for 2024 to deal with the political challenges ahead.
After the meeting at 10 Janpath, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, however, refrained from answering any questions on Kishor’s involvement.
Addressing the media, Surjewala said that the Congress has also decided to organize a ‘Navsankalp Chintan Shivir’ from May 13-15 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, in which 400 delegates will participate.
The senior Congress leader said Sonia Gandhi had received a report from an eight-member group formed on April 21 to evaluate Kishor’s roadmap. “Today he discussed that report with the group. Based on the discussion, the Congress President has decided to constitute an Empowered Working Group-2024 to deal with the political challenges ahead.”
Sources earlier told news agency ANI that most of the suggestions have been found practical and useful.
Surjewala said that the focus of deliberations in the ‘Chintan Shivir’ would be on the current political and economic situation and the challenges being faced by the society.
Issues related to farmers and farm labourers, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs, religious and linguistic minorities and women, social justice and empowerment and welfare and welfare of youth will also be discussed in detail, he said.
“Besides, matters relating to organizational restructuring and strengthening will be examined. The Chintan Shivir will also consider the comprehensive strategy of the Indian National Congress for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
While the Congress is contemplating bringing Kishor on the board, a section of veterans is thinking twice about his entry, as he has affiliations with several political outfits against the Congress.
Even the dissident group in the party, known as G23, is not very impressed with Kishor’s joining as he says that the leadership is ignoring and ignoring the inner talent and relying on someone who can. who is not loyal to the party and is a professional advisor.
